Reddit Gets Drawn | October 2015 (Fast Sketches)

A consolidation of all the Reddit Gets Drawn that were done in October of 2015. This was the first month I came across this subreddit and I would dedicate almost every lunch while I worked at Mindshare Creative to drawing the submissions that stood out to me. Later I would revisit some of these and redraw them with a more cleaner and time-intensive style. Back to pencil, but a lot of digital manipulations afterward with dodge and burns. I was still playing with color, but more subtle uses (based on available time.) I was playing with different techniques to expedite the process and this is probably the beginning of where many of the process I use started. The beginning of the “beige” started a bit last month, but this is where it was really a part of the look and feel.

Many of these drawings were very quick sketches, meaning drawn within 5 minutes. When I first encountered Reddit Gets Drawn it was in pursuit of a source of “models” that I could drawn and not worry about copyright issues. There was a note in the FAQ that explicitly stated that artists could use their art for any purposes as they see fit, but the submitter was limited since the artist owns the rights to the work. I felt this was better than how other “art model” sites like Quick Poses were since I was unsure of how they got their models. Later I would also use some stock photo sites for sources. There are some great free stock sites like Pexels or Unsplash if you want to check them out. Remember, just because you found a picture on Google Search it may not be totally legal to draw that and then later use that art, however I’ve tried to find sources that limit my liability since I don’t have a budget on obtaining my sources but I do like to have some freedom with the final art.

The Individual Drawings

If you would also like to purchase a print of my artwork as a poster, canvas print, or on a phone case you can also see those in the Merchandise Shop — I have also recently begun making Skateboard Deck Designs, but those can only be currently purchased via Threadless.com.

These Reddit Gets Drawn graphite drawings by Sean Carter are also located at my Art Portfolio in the RGD October 2015 section (although I noticed I had not put all of these drawings in there). None of these have been redrawn as of September 2019, but other ones have been and those can be seen in the Drawings Revisited section.
